Currency Information on Argentinean Peso - ARS — Argentinian Peso - $

Argentinian pesos were originally called the peso convertible, as the fixed exchange rate by the central Bank was 1:1 peso to USD, and the Central Bank had $1 in the foreign currency reserves for every peso in circulation.

Currently, the coins in circulation are 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 centavos and 1 and 2 pesos. Banknotes available are 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pesos. Pesos are sub-divisible into 100 centavos.

In Argentina, amounts exceeding $10,000 USD must be declared upon being imported and foreign currencies may not be exported unless done so through authorised foreign exchange and financial authorities if the amount is over 10,000 USD, for people aged 21 or older, or independent minors, 2,000 USD for those aged between 16 and 2 years of age, and 1,000 for travellers aged below 16.
