“Dinah” originates from the Roman word “denarius” and was introduced in 1965, to replace the Gulf rupee; it did so at a ratio of 10r:1dinar. When written, three decimal places are used to denote fils, as 1 dinar can be subdivided into 1,000 fils.

Bahraini dinar coins are available in denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100, in coins, as well as the BD ½ coins, which represents 500 fils. Banknotes follow suit with denominations BD ½, BD 1, BD 5, BD 10 and BD 20 in circulation.
