The Comorian franc subdivides into 100 centime, but no centime denominational coins have ever been issued in Comoros, where the Comorian franc is the official currency.

Comorian language has been used on Comorian francs since 1975, before which, only French was used, as Comoros was a French protectorate and the French government had majority ownership over the Banque de Madagascar et des Comoros (Bank of Madagascar and Comoros). The Comorian franc is pegged to the Euro at 491.96775 CF to 1 euro.

Frequently used Comorian franc banknotes are issued in denominations of 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000 and 10,000 francs, whilst coins are available in denominations of 25, 50, 100 and 250 francs. Coins in the denominations 1, 2, 5 and 10 francs are also available, but due to their low value, they are rarely used.
