Currency Information on Dominican Peso - DOP — Dominican peso – RD$

Like most currencies which use the dollar symbol as their currency representative, the Dominican peso prefaces the dollar symbol with the letters ‘RD’ to distinguish the symbol from other currencies using the same one.

Dominican pesos are subdivided into 100 centavos (or cents)and are the only currency allowed to be used in the country for both private and public transactions.

The coins in circulation are in denominations of 1, 5, 10 and 25 pesos, and banknotes are available in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 pesos.
