The dalasi replaced the Gambian pound in 1971 at a ratio of 5 dalasi = 1 pound, or 1 dalasi – 4 shillings.

Dalasi coins are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 bututs and 1 dalasi, whereas banknotes are available in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 25, 50, 100 and 200 dalasi’s.
