Currency Information on Guinean Franc - GNF — Guinean franc – FG or GFr

Issued in 1959, the first Guinean franc replaced the CFA franc in Guinea, the second Guinean franc was introduced in 1985, replacing the syli, which had replaced the first frank in 1971.

The second franc was introduced at a 1:1 ratio with the syli. Commemorative coins were issued in 2010, including the 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 franc coins, celebrating 50 years of independence.

Coins in circulation are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 francs, whilst banknotes are available in denominations of 100, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000; the 100 franc note is rarely used due to the lack of purchasing power.
