Currency Information on Serbian Dinar - RSD - Serbian dinar – РСД

The use of a Serbian dinar was first recorded in 1214, but the first modern dinar was introduced in 1868, replacing the Ottoman garrison, and removing the issue that Serbia was facing of having many currencies in circulation.

Banknotes were not issued until 1876. The Yugoslav dinar and Yugoslav krone began circulating Serbia together, replacing the first Serbian dinar at a 1:1 ratio in 1920. These currencies were replaced by the second Serbian dinar, in 1941, when Germany occupied Serbia, however the Yugoslav Partisans replaced the Serbian dinar again with the Yugoslav dinar at a ratio of 1 Yugoslav dinar: 20 Serbian dinars.

When Yugoslavia became the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, this currency was once again replaced by the Serbian dinar ,at par, in 2003.

1, 2 and 5 dinar coins are frequently used in Serbia, whereas, 10 and 20 dinar coins are not. 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 dinar banknotes are in frequent circulations, but 2000 and 5000 dinar banknotes are rarely seen.
