Currency Information on Tunisian Dinar - TND – Tunisian dinar - د.ت or DT

The Tunisian dinar replaced the franc at a ratio of 1,000:1 in 1960. Before devaluation in 1971, the dinar held a peg to the US dollar at a rate of 1 dollar: 0.525 dinar. In Tunisia, it is a crime to export or import dinar, per year, each citizen can exchange foreign currency up to the amount of 6,000 Tunisian dollars, before leaving the country.

This means that duty-free shop prices are all displayed in euros, British pounds, and dollars, there are also many ATMs designed to convert currency available for tourists.

Coins are available in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 millim, and ½, 1, 2, and 5 dinars. Banknotes circulate in denominations of 5, 10, 20 and 50 dinars.
