French banks will handle a number of different types of money transfer and are therefore relatively easy to work with. This will vary between regions and some banks in the capital (Paris) may be open for longer periods. During bank holidays the banks will not reopen after 1200hrs, but will remain closed some may even be closed the following day but this is not a common occurrence.
Banks are not the only place to exchange currency in France, and some hotels will be able to provide the service as well. Visitors should therefore look at the Crédit Mutuel or Crédit Agricole.
French banks will typically support a number of major forms of money transfer, including those by credit card. American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa are all common examples of credit cards which are accepted in this area, with Euro cheque cards also being accepted. Travellers cheques, however, will not be accepted. This follows a 2002 decision by the Banque de France which saw them stop dealing in foreign currency. This will therefore not be a viable option for money transfer to France.
