The ottoman lira was replaced by the Egyptian pound in 1918, which as replaced with a new currency for Syria and Lebanon, introduced by the French.

The exchange rate is fixed at 1507.5 pounds to one USD.

Coins are in circulation in denominations of 250 and 500 pounds, whilst banknotes are available in the following denominations; 1000, 5000, 10 000, 20 000, 50 000 and 100 000 pounds.
