The Romanian leu has been revalued 3 times, in 1947, 1952 and 2005. Romania may be joining the Eurozone, at which point they will adopt the Euro as their official currency.

One leu subdivides into 100 bani and coins are available in denominations of 5, 10 and 50 bani.

Coins are also available in denominations of 1 ban, though these are rarely used. Banknotes are available in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 200 and 500 lei, though the 500 lei banknotes are not used frequently.
