Currency Information on Yemen Riel - YER – Yemini rial - ﷼

The rial replaced the dinar, which had been the currency of South Yemen – the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen, until the unionisation with the Yemen Arab Republic, and the northern rial. The dinar was taken out of circulation in 1996; 3 years after the first rial coins were released in 1993.

Coins in denominations of 1. 5, 10, 20 and 50 rials, and banknotes in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 250, 500 and 1000 rials are in circulation.
